Titled "Tumbling Waters" to the engraved nameplate and "Autumn on the North River" in graphite verso, signed lower left, oil on masonite, 30.5 x 40.6cm (12 x 16in); Provenance: The Lawson Gallery, Nepean, Ontario; present private London collection; Eric John Benson Riordon, Canadian, 1906-1948; born in St. Catherines and grew up in Montreal, Riordon studied charcoal drawing at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Montreal, and travelled to Paris thereafter where he trained at the Académie de la Grande Chaumiere and the Académie Julian; he was elected to the A.R.C.A. in 1946, and built a house on a hilltop in Quebec where many of his Laurentian scenes were painted
