Titled "Buzzards Over Mexican River", signed with initials lower right, mixed media on board, 13.3 x 29.8cm (5 1/4 x 11 3/4in); housed inside an exquisite frame handmade and hand painted by the artist; Provenance: Joyners, Toronto; Waddingtons, Toronto; also handwritten in pencil verso "Bought from Kurelek, 1973"; present private London estate collection; William Kurelek, Canadian, 1927-1977; the son of Ukrainian farmers, Kurelek grew up during the Great Depression on a grain farm in Alberta; he moved to England in his mid-twenties, returning to Canada in 1959 and held his first exhibition at the Isaac's Gallery in 1960; his attention to detail is remarkable and subjects highly unique, making him one of the most popular artist's in Canada today
