Titled verso "Lake Between Rockingham and Combermere, Ont.", signed lower right and dated (19)60, also signed and dated on the verso, oil on canvas, 55.9 x 71.1cm (22 x 28in); Provenance: private collection, Huntsville, Ontario; Ralph Wallace Burton, Canadian, 1905-1983; a well-known Ottawa Valley artist who was a student and friend to Group of Seven member A.Y. Jackson; the two artists travelled and painted together across Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, Alaska and the Yukon territory over a period spanning more than 20 years, and Jackson had a great influence on Burton's work as seen in this spectacular painting; like the Group of Seven, Burton painted on mostly smaller boards when en plein air, and only a handful of his major canvases have appeared for sale at auction
