An original and historic letter from Group of Seven member Alexander Young (A.Y.) Jackson to Charles Matthew of Sampson-Matthews, written in Combermere, Ontario on October 16, 1961; A.Y. writes about painting with well-known 20th century Canadian artists Joe (Joachim) Gauthier and Clare Bice, the latter of whom was curator of what is now Museum London from 1940-1972; Jackson also writes about his dissatisfaction with Coutts and the poor job they did on some recent artwork he wanted to reproduce as cards, and goes on writing "Glad you like the sketch, best wishes to Alice and yourself, Sincerely, Alex"; the sheet measures 27.9 x 21cm (11 x 8 1/4in), unframed; Provenance: private Georgian Bay area collection
