Titled "Shore Shapes and the Iceberg", signed lower right, dated 1981 verso, watercolour on paper, 38.1 x 55.9cm (15 x 22in); Provenance: Aggregation Gallery, Toronto; Waddingtons, Toronto; present private collection, London; Doris Jean McCarthy, Canadian, 1910-2010; born in Calgary, Doris attended the Ontario College of Art from 1926-1930, and became a teacher at the Central Technical School in Toronto from 1933 until she retired in 1972; she is perhaps best known for her abstract landscapes, with a strong focus on arctic scenes including icebergs; McCarthy's masterpiece "Late Light Boughton Island, 1982" sold for $140,000 at auction in 2022
