19th century oil on canvas depicting a Quebec landscape scene in early autumn with two figures in canoe, man on horseback and habitant at the edge of the river with log cabin, bears signature lower left and dated 1852, sight 43.2 x 55.9cm (17 x 22in); canvas stamped verso; housed in a quality antique frame; Provenance: from a private London collection, and has been in the same family for multiple generations; the current owner had the painting examined by a local art gallery several years ago, who removed the canvas from frame and also provided a CD-ROM disc with ultra-high definition photographs of the canvas, signature and repairs (disc included with this lot); in expert opinion, this work was likely painted by a student or follower of Cornelius David Krieghoff (Canadian, 1815-1872)
