Monumental watercolour depicting a vibrant street scene at St. George's Hall, Liverpool, signed and dated 1892 lower left, also signed verso and inscribed "Street Scene", 76.2cm x 1.22m (30 x 48in); housed in an elaborate period gilt frame, outside dimensions 96.5cm x 1.4m (38 x 55in); Provenance: present Ontario collection; Note: due to the size and subject matter, experts believe this work was likely for an important exhibition (partial labels still affixed to the stretcher verso); Charles Arthur Cox, 1857-1936, born in Liverpool, England, and later moved to the United States; very few paintings by the artist have appeared for sale
