Titled verso "Sunrise, La Cloche Lake", signed lower left, acrylic on board, 45.7 x 61cm (18 x 24in); Provenance: East Queen Gallery, Toronto, original price $3500.00; artist's studio stamp and biography verso; James Edward Hergel, Canadian, born 1961; at the age of twelve, a young James Hergel met Group of Seven member A.Y. Jackson and escorted the artist in his wheelchair through the grounds of the Canadian National Exhibition and Ontario Place; this encounter with a high profile artist had a truly profound impact on him; Hergel studied on scholarship at the Art Gallery of Ontario, and took instruction from a number of notable contemporary Canadian artists in the 1970's including Jack Bush; at a chance meeting with A.J. Casson, he was given an impromptu sketching lesson and personal encouragement from the artist; James Hergel's paintings are represented in numerous private and institutional collections worldwide
