LOT DETAILS
Restrike etching on paper "Philon le Juif", signed and titled in the plate, sight 19.1 x 17.8cm (7 1/2 x 7in); the original etching was made by Jerome David (1605-1670), and was published in Paris by Francois Laglois, also known as F.L.D. Ciartres; Philo van Alexandrië Philon le Juif was a Hellenistic Jewish philosopher who lived in Alexandria in the Roman province of Egypt, 20 BCE - 50 CE; Provenance: private collection, London, originally purchased from Gardner Galleries, 1980 (Jason Gardner's catalogue description included with this lot verso); noted in the description is this etching belonged to a famous Canadian, who himself was an etcher of some repute, and the collection was assembled in the late 1800's; Rembrandt Van Rijn, Dutch, Dutch, 1606-1669
