Alexander Young (A.Y.) Jackson, Canadian, 1882-1974, best known as a founding member of the Group of Seven; Jackson was a War Artist during WWI, Group of Seven member from 1920 to 1933 and later the Canadian Group of Painters from 1933-1967; he also taught at the Banff School of Fine Arts from 1943-1949; this stunning work was executed late winter in Ripon, western Quebec, in the valley of the Petite-Nation River; it is a fine representation of the artist's unique painting style depicting snow-covered hills of white and blue hues with swaying trees in the foreground and distance, separated by a thawing river in between
