"Untitled: Illustration", signed and dated (19)49 lower right, mixed media on artist cardboard, 26.4 x 17.1cm (10 3/8 x 6 3/4in); Oscar Cahen, Canadian, 1916-1956; in the late 1940s, Cahen met Walter Yarwood, Harold Town and others involved in avant-garde art in Toronto, and was included in the "Abstracts at Home" display held in 1953 at the Robert Simpson Company, Toronto; he is perhaps best known as a founding member of Painters Eleven, but his career was cut short when he was killed in a car accident in Oakville, Ontario in 1956
