J. R. SEAVEY

Oil on canvas "River Landscape", signed, 53.3 x 90.2cm (21 x 35 1/2in) - Julian Ruggles Seavey was born Boston in 1857, moving to Hamilton, Ontario in 1879 where he died in 1940; he became well-known as a teacher, illustrator (Pauline Johnson's 'Flint & Feather') and one of the first painters of landscapes in the Hamilton area - his works hang in the permanent collection of the Hamilton Gallery.
