Made by W. Johnson, Edinburgh, 30.5cm (12in) diameter calibrated brass meridian with hour ring on North Pole, wooden horizontal ring with Zodiac months of the year, diameter 40.6cm (16in); raised on four quadrant arcs on a turned balaster column and tripod legs, height 63.5cm (25in)
Inscribed on the circular cartouche "Johnston's Twelve Inch Globe, Constructed and Engraved from the Latest Authorities by W. & A.K. Johnston, Geographers to the Queen, Edinburgh, 1867"; some restoration around poles and rubbed areas from improper placement in stand, otherwise in good condition and well painted
