After studying in Ottawa and Montreal in her early years, and working in Toronto from 1934-1937 Pegi Nicol McLeod married and eventually moved to New York City, whilst returning annually to Fredericton, New Brunswick; together with artist Lucy Jarvis, they started the Observatory Art Centre for aspiring artists at the University of New Brunswick; she continued to paint in New York throughout the 1940's, and in 1947 held her famous exhibition "The Manhattan Cycle" which consisted of 110 works focusing on her time in New York City, which toured across western Canada including Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Calgary, Edmonton, Victoria, and Vancouver; this is a large-scale oil by the artist, depicting the The Queensboro Bridge, also known as the 59th Street Bridge and officially the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge over the East River in New York City
