LOT DETAILS

An exceptionally rare and important original hand-coloured copper-plate engraving from the Theatrum Scotiae by John Slezer, 1693; the latter is considered by scholars to be an important record of Scottish towns, castles and palaces in the 17th century, and represents many of the earliest views to have survived; the images provide an invaluable insight into Scottish localities and society of the day - Dunfermline is especially important being the old Royal Seat and Capital of Scotland, and its monastery was established in 1130 by King David I of Scotland

Presented in fine condition with surrounding beige matt and protective sleeve, image size 30.5 x 41.9cm (12 x 16 1/2in)
