Handcrafted and finely carved wood automaton sculpture titled on the artist's studio label "Carpenter", serial number 381, hand-signed by Williamson and dated (19)83; two-wheel crank at the front when turned operates the plane in his hands back and forth; the top of the work bench includes saws, hammers and chisels, exquisite detail to the man's face and hands; height 36.8cm (14 1/2in), width 24.1cm (9 1/2in), depth 24.1cm (9 1/2in) - this and the following two lots are from the same Keswick, Ontario collection; a similar example (The Cook) can be seen on display at the Wales Machinations Museum, otherwise these sculptures are exceedingly rare
