LOT DETAILS

Antique English cast iron bank modelled after South African politician Paul Kruger (1825-1904), height 15.2cm (6in); Note: John Harper & Co., Ltd. of England designed the first Transvaal Money Boxes in 1885; this is a Gazelie example as it has a removable/semi-mechanical pipe opposed to the original Harper which had fixed pipes, as well the word "Gazelie" is inscribed on the back instead of the original word "Gazette"; this is still an early bank and quite a rare find, circa early 1900's
