Titled to the frame "Playful Puppies", signed lower right and dated (18)87, oil on panel with old cradling wood support verso, 36.8 x 26.7cm (14 1/2 x 10 1/2in); Provenance: from a private London estate collection; Hugo Wilhelm Kauffman, German, 1844-1915, his work representative of the Munich School, often depicting genre scenes of the 19th century including tavern interiors with men and women in conversation; this is quite a rare and lovely subject by the artist, portraying a smiling young woman holding puppy in hand and another tugging at her skirt
