Titled "Smiling Pool, Camp Hurontario", signed lower right and dated (19)65, also signed and dated verso, watercolour on paper, 50.8 x 61cm (20 x 24in); Provenance: from a private collection, London; David Lloyd Blackwood, 1941-2022, one of Canada's leading artist's throughout the 20th and early 21st century; Blackwood was born in Wesleyville, Newfoundland, and was awarded the Government of Newfoundland Centennial scholarship to study at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto under prominent artists of the day, including Carl Schaefer; this is an early watercolour by Blackwood, painted when he was just 24 years old while visiting Camp Hurontario in Toronto; a lovely autumn scene, this major work showcases colours which he would be known for in later works including vibrant shades of blues; very few watercolours of this vintage by Blackwood are known in existence
