GORDON PAYNE

Titled verso "Boats, Lanesville", signed lower left, oil on board, 45.7 x 61cm (18 x 24in) - Gordon Eastcott Payne, Canadian, 1890-1983; born in Paynes Mills, Ontario, he studied art under Mary Cox at the School of Fine Arts, New York and under George Reid, J. W. Beatty and William Cruikshank at the Ontario College of Art from 1910-1914; he was an active artist in Toronto and Halifax, as well Gloucester, Massachusetts; this is a lovely work by the artist, showcasing his excellent skill of using light and colour in the community of Lanesville, Nova Scotia
