Titled verso "Kicking Horse Pass", signed lower right, oil on board, 30.5 x 40.6cm (12 x 16in) - Clare Bice, Canadian, 1909-1976, born in Durham, Ontario, studied at the University of Western Ontario, New York Art Student's League and Grand Central School of Art, New York; exhibited across North America including the New York World's Fair, 1939; Bice was quoted as saying "My own painting is clearly representational, which is a limitation of sorts perhaps, though my intention is to comment on nature, to distill it, not merely record it"; this work depicts the Kicking Horse mountain pass on the Alberta/British Columbia border, lying within Yoho and Banff national parks
