Titled "Bird People", signed to the margin in syllabics and dated 1963, stencil engraving editioned 37/50, image size 9 3/4 x 11 3/4in; frame outer dimensions 47.6 x 50.8cm (18 3/4 x 20in); Kenojuak Ashevak, Canadian Inuit, 1927-2013; born in Ikirasaq, southern coast of Baffin Island; a leading figure of modern Inuit art, Ashevak became one of the first Inuit women in Cape Dorset to begin drawing, and worked in graphite, coloured pencils, felt-tip pens, watercolours and acrylics; her work is in the Art Museum (The University of Toronto), the National Gallery of Canada, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and other major collections
