LOT DETAILS

Immense oil painting on canvas mural depicting the Tabernacle, Yahweh's tent shrine, described by Torah's Priestly author; signed lower right "J. Green" and dated 1917; also included are five painted overlays which can be inserted onto the mural for display purposes, together with three large antique wood boxes (signed belonging to J. Patton, Guelph, Ontario) inside which these paintings were found; the mural itself measures approximately 1.73 x 2.95m (68 x 116in); there are condition issues, such as paint loss, surface marks and a tear in the canvas lower left; experts are puzzled by this fantastic work, but believe it was used during religious events and ceremonies during the first half of the century, a true piece of history; note this and the following lot were discovered inside a church basement in London where they have been stored for over 60 years, unseen until now
