LOT DETAILS

18th century piqué, silver inlay and ivory pomander walking stick, with Queen Victoria household inventory stamp on handle, length 81.3cm (32in); Provenance: the consignor (present London, Ontario private collection) informed Gardner Galleries that a distant relative worked in one of Queen Victoria's residences in 19th century England, where the walking stick was stamped and has been past down through several generations in the same family; Victoria reigned from 1837-1901, so its origins will forever be unknown as the walking stick itself is much older and dates to the 1700's; this is a very rare and unique piece of history, a similar walking stick without the royal stamp sold by auction at Bonhams, England for £1,125 in January, 2012
