An impressive large-scale oil on masonite board by Daisy Bailey, signed and dated 1953 lower right depicting a vast multi-coloured tree-lined landscape with cottage and gardens in a fantasy-style setting, 1.14 x 1.55m (45 x 61in); displayed in a custom made hand-painted frame measuring 1.27 x 1.68m (50 x 66in); Provenance: present Ontario private collection, acquired from Reverend Arthur Jared (former rector at St. John the Divine Anglican Church, London), who purchased this work directly from the artist; Daisy Bailey, 20th century Canadian artist who was active in London and area; many of her works were done on a commission basis, which attests to her quality but so few of her paintings have ever appeared for sale; McIntosh Gallery has a metalwork of hers, and the Archives of Ontario has a large piece in their permanent collection; she worked in many different media, including jewellery and large metal pieces, her local contemporaries include Herb Arris, Jack Chambers, Paterson Ewen and Greg Curnoe; Bailey's jewellery was exhibited by Nancy Poole in London, and the AGO placed her works alongside Picasso and Calder; she died at the young age of 51
