ROY AUSTIN

Titled verso "The Serpent River", signed lower right, oil on canvas board, 35.6 x 45.7cm (14 x 18in) - Roy Austin, Canadian, 1910-1997; the artist was born in England and moved to Canada at one year of age, his family settling in Orangeville, Ontario; in 1930, Austin enrolled at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto, studying under prominent artists of the day including J.W. Beatty, J.E.H. MacDonald, Frank Carmichael and Yvonne McKague Housser; he graduated in 1934 and was accepted into annual exhibitions with the OSA and RCA
