Titled "The Milk Maid", signed lower right, oil on panel, 35.6 x 26.7cm (14 x 10 1/2in); displayed in a stunning antique gilt frame, outside dimensions 53.3 x 45.7cm (21 x 18in); Provenance: private Hamilton collection; Henry Victor Lesur, French, 1863-1900; born in Roubaix, Lesur studied under François Flameng at the École, an academically trained artist who also painted scenes influenced by eighteenth century masters; Lesur debuted at the Salon in 1887 until 1895, but his career ended early when he passed away at the young age of 37; this is an exceptional work by the artist, showcasing his exemplary technique and use of colour and light
