"Untitled: Young Girl Reading to Her Grandmother", signed lower right and dated 1885, watercolour on paper, sight 68.6 x 49.5cm (27 x 19 1/2in); Provenance: Waddingtons, Toronto; present private collection, London; Laura Adeline Muntz Lyall, Canadian, 1860-1930; born in Warwickshire, England, Muntz came to Canada with her family as a child and settled in the Muskoka area; she began formal art training at the age of 23 and while teaching in Hamilton, took art classes in her spare time and further art courses in England and France; after 7 years in Europe, Muntz returned to Canada and opened an art studio in Toronto, was elected an Associate of the Royal Canadian Academy in 1895, and resided in Montreal where she continued to paint; one of the most talented Canadian women artist's of the late 19th/early 20th century, Muntz' impressionistic watercolour studies portraying women and children are amongst her best works
