LOT DETAILS

A large scale oil on canvas measuring 1.2 x 1.4m (47 1/4 x 55 1/4in), signed indistinctly lower left and dated 1912; the artist depicts an eerie street scene at dusk, with a moonlit tree's shadow reflecting on an old building in the foreground with candlelit window, and a dark, narrow passageway in the distance; in expert opinion, this was painted by a true master whose use of light is extraordinary, much in the style of other Post-Impressionists at the time and can be compared to Don Angelo Rescalli's "Notturno in Val di Susa", and Henri Le Sidaner's "La Maison Aux Roses, Clair De Lune"; craquelure to canvas evident, and an old imperfection/repair right middle; the canvas is mounted to an old wood stretcher; Provenance: Sven Thielsen, London; present private collection, London; clients located outside of Ontario are advised to contact our office for any shipping related inquiries
