Titled verso "Fences", signed lower right and verso, dated (19)85 verso, acrylic on canvas board, 35.6 x 45.7cm (14 x 18in); Provenance: this work was painted for the artist's sister, Olive Gibbs; Ernest Caven Atkins, Canadian, 1907-2000, also known as Caven Atkins, was born in London, Ontario and grew up in Manitoba and Saskatchewan; he was an instructor at the Winnipeg School of Art from 1930-1934, Queen's University in 1943 and the Ontario College of Art in 1945; after the war, Atkins moved to Birmingham, Michigan and worked as a designer/illustrator for the Ford Motor Company until his retirement; he passed away in Birmingham at the age of 93; only a handful of original works by Atkins have appeared for sale by auction
