"Untitled: Abstract", signed lower left, watercolour on paper, sight 35.6 x 53.3cm (14 x 21in) - Jacob Semiatin, American, 1915-2003; the artist was born in Ireland and moved to New York City in 1920; in his early career, he exhibited with the Brooklyn Society of Artists (1930-1940); after serving in WWII, the style and movement "colour field painting" began in New York City, about the same time Semiatin was first active in abstract painting and held his first solo exhibition at the Contemporary Arts Gallery in New York; today, his works are in important collections worldwide including the Brooklyn Museum, The Houston Museum of Modern Art and The Irish Jewish Museum of Dublin
