Doris Jean McCarthy, Canadian, 1910-2010, attended the OCA (Ontario College of Art) from 1926-1930 where she was awarded various scholarships and prizes and became a teacher shortly thereafter; she was also mentored by Group of Seven members J.E.H. MacDonald and Arthur Lismer; Doris spent most of her life living and working in Scarborough, though she travelled extensively; Her works have been collected and exhibited in Canada and abroad at both public and private galleries, including the National Gallery of Canada and the Art Gallery of Ontario; Doris loved Western Canada and the Canadian Rockies since her first trip in 1937, this painting being a true masterpiece depicting Esplanade Mountain in Jasper National Park, Alberta
