Small handmade wood display box, inside a handwritten note describing the contents as the inner core of the first Transatlantic telegraph cable, probably laid in 1858 and worked for 3 months before it became interrupted in deep water, originally owned by Philip Henry Davis - the box measures 7cm (2 3/4in) square
