Rare copy of "Landmarks of Mapmaking", Illustrated Survey of Maps and Mapmakers, chosen and displayed by R.V. Tooley, text by Charles Bricker; Ronald Vere Tooley (1898-1986) was an English map dealer and recognized authority on early maps and cartographers; Preface was written by Gerald Roe Crone (1899 – 1982) an English cartographer, and Librarian and Map Curator at the Royal Geographical Society, London, 1945-1966; the original Swiss copyright dates to 1975, with first English publication in 1976 and 1989 limited edition under licence in 1989; this important work covers over 2000 years of cartography with stunning and superbly illustrated colour and black/white copies of original maps, in pristine condition "The Early Mapping of Hawai’i" by Gary L. Fitzpatrick, 1986, nearly 70 reproduced maps and more than 20 views, portraits, illustrations, including charts and harbour plans produced by famous explorers, Cook, Bligh, Vancouver, Kotzebue, Litansky, De la Perouse, Duperrey, and Charles Wilkes, in virtually pristine condition
