Large volume - approx. 35 x 26cm (13 3/4 x 10 1/4in), titled "Sir Francis Drake, A Pictorial Biography" by Hans P. Kraus, with an historical introduction by Lt. Commander David Waters and Richard Boulind, and a detailed catalogue of the author's collection, published by N. Israel of Amsterdam; the frontispiece shows Hondius' portrait of Drake, c.1583, showing him at 43 with the coat of arms conferred on him April 4, 1581, after being knighted at Deptford, on the deck of the Golden Hind, the first English ship to go around the world; the volume is replete with faithfully reproduced beautiful historical portraits, maps, letters, naval and royal communications, and other significant illustrations; in pristine condition with blue-gray hardcover adorned with gold lettering on the spine and embossed gilt on red background Coat of Arms of Elizabeth I on the front
