Possibly 17th century or earlier, a mixed media wood and bone sculpture of a standing man, believed to be a conquistador with two early flintlock pistols on his belt, height 21.6cm (8 1/2in); right hand missing, right foot loose, chip to left index finger; Provenance: from a private Hamilton collection, the owner informed auctioneers the sculpture is made of bone from the person it depicts, likely created after his death in homage; the earliest guns used by the conquistadors date back to the 16th/17th centuries, dating this piece to that time period; Gardner's were unable to find any similar examples online - this could be a one of a kind piece of human history
