A degree of provenance is afforded by two tabs on the inside front cover; an Ex Libris tab showing the Crest of the Gallie family whose motto was Divino Robore (By Divine Strength) by engraver J.B. Mould above the name James B. Gallie, and secondly, by the small label of John Boyle, Bookseller and Binder, Edinburgh; James Boog Gallie b. 1801, Dornoch, Sutherland, Scotland, son of Samuel Gallie (1765-1808), Burgess and Builder at Dunrobin Castle, and Clementine Boog. He emigrated to Canada and married Elizabeth A. Saunders on 2 Dec 1826 in Nova Scotia; in the census of 1861, James B. Gallie is listed as head of a household of 3 males and 4 females in polling District no.4, Yarmouth, Nova Scotia; in 1871 census, James B. Gallie, aged 71, born in Scotland, Presbyterian, a farmer, Elizabeth Gallie, wife 70, born in Nova Scotia, Sophia Gallie, 26, born in Nova Scotia, dressmaker. Died in 1875 in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, and buried in Carleton Cemetery
The volume is in very good condition for age with maroon leather binding with gold embossed title and decoration on the spine, and intricate gold embossed image of a Scottish monument front and back, and gold-toned page edges; some minor foxing and transfer to some pages
