"Untitled: Still Life", oil on panel, 48.3 x 40.6cm (19 x 16in); Provenance: the present London owner purchased this work at a Toronto auction in the early 1990's, and is believed to have been painted by Aleen Elizabeth Aked (English/Canadian, 1907-2003); Aked moved to Ontario at the age of three, and at fourteen won the Arthur Lismer Junior Course Scholarship at the Ontario College of Art; she studied under many prominent artists of the day, including several members of the Group of Seven, J.W. Beatty and Yvonne McKague Housser; her classmates included Doris McCarthy and Isabel McLaughlin
