Wood carving in bristlecone pine by noted American artist Jack Portice of Como, Colorado entitled "Spirit of Black Eagle"; the carving measures 45.7cm (18in) high and stands on a substantial 10.2cm (4in) deep wooden base with attached brass plate; Jack's carvings of Indigenous themes are highly collectible and this example dates from about 1988, original cost $750.00 US; Note: Jack's choice of wood is bristlecone pine, which complements the sweeping flowing form that is Portice's style; it is found "up the canyon about 8 miles, clear up timberline, about 11-12,000 ft."
