Rare original copperplate engraving, hand-coloured and published according to Act of Parliament on August 12, 1757, and sold by John Rocque near Round Court in the Strand (London); the plan shows the encampments of the English commanded by Colonel Stringer Lawrence in the years 1753 and 1754, image size 58.4 x 72.4cm (23 x 28 1/2in); sheet size 66 x 76.8cm (26 x 30 1/4in); the dedication (bottom right in rococo cartouche embellished with the artefacts of war and surmounted by the arms of William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland) to His Royal Highness William Duke of Cumberland / Captain General of His Majesty's Forces / This Plan is Mostly Humbly Inscrib'd by His Most Obedient Servant / John Rocque / Choreographer to His Royal Highness / The Prince of Wales; presented in very nice condition with no peripheral tears protruding into the image, central folding, unframed; Note: Trichinapoly is an ancient city in India's southern Tamil Nadu state
