Gardner Galleries are excited to offer an exceptional original pencil drawing by John Constable (British, R.A., 1776-1837).  The drawing was found among the chattels from the estate of George Holmes, London, Ontario. The auctioneers understand the Constable was obtained by bequest along with a few other choice pieces (early Chippendale table desk, American Centennial Irish Chippendale chairs, Chinese bronze lanterns, etc.) that will be offered in an upcoming online estate auction.  The drawing has excellent provenance: it was included in the Pulitzer auction at Park-Bernet Galleries, New York City in 1941.  Park-Bernet, the most prestigious auction firm in the United States at that time, was purchased by Sotheby's in 1964.
