LOT DETAILS

Signed on base with factory mark (for Frankenthal) with hand-painted floral design, width 28.6cm (11 1/4in) - purchased in Budapest, Hungary; note: the consignor has provided images from a vintage German reference book (not included with this lot), which states the blue underglaze marks of CT under a crown indicate the initials of Carl Theodor, the Prince Elector of the Duchy (Mannheim), who at the time supported the factory financially; this mark was used from 1765-1769; the factory closed in 1799 during the Napoleonic invasion; although this plate is very rare, similar examples can be found in German museums, as well in the British Museum collection, London, UK
