Featuring 28 works from the estate of well known London artist William (Bill) James Johnson offered without reserve.
Born in Windsor, Ontario, Johnson attended OCA on a scholarship where he obtained academic qualifications to teach secondary school art until resigning in 1971 to paint full time. Known for outstanding portrait painting, he was sent as a war artist to Cyprus in 1975 and 1977 where he completed 39 works, 7 of which are in the permanent collection of the National War Museum in Ottawa. His portrait of now deceased president of Cyprus Archbishop Makarios hangs in the presidential palace, Nicosia, Cyprus.
In 1983 Bill Johnson spent three weeks in the Norwegian arctic on a NATO exercise recording in drawings and watercolours the work of the Royal Canadian Regiment. Two of his paintings were reproduced to commemorate the centennial of the Regiment.
Johnson passed away three years ago and was not painting 10 years prior. The following works have not been offered or seen by the public in over 15 years.
