Gardner Galleries are delighted to have been entrusted to sell an important private collection of Canadian art with many highlights & works never before seen by the public, including a 1912 oil on board by J.E.H. MacDonald titled "Bathurst Street" painted 8 years before the Group of Seven formed, a stunning 1941 oil by Yvonne McKague Housser "The Little Clearing" and noted that the canvas for this sketch is housed in the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Canada, an early art deco illustration oil on wood panel by Franz Johnston, two original works by Pegi Nicol MacLeod acquired directly from her estate and painted during her time in New York City, a rare mixed media by Polish/American artist Sigmund Menkes, a 1964 oil on canvas by Samuel Borenstein, and other important works by Doris McCarthy, Frank Milton Armington, Sir Stanley Spencer, John Wentworth Russell, Sherry Blanchard Stuart, a monumental oil on board by Gaetano de Martini, Ross Robertshaw, Lorie Shinko, William Ronald, Clark McDougall, Val Sloggett, Erika Dassel, Ross Bishop and much more.
